Lake
Naivasha Country Club

The
Lake Naivasha Country Club opened in 1937 as a staging post for
Imperial Airways' flying boat service from Durban to London. The
55-acre property boasts green lawns shaded by mature acacias and
spreading fever trees, that stretch down to the lake's shore. The
hotel offers a wonderful mix of tranquility in serene surroundings
and a varied number of sporting activities for both the energetic
and the more laid back. Lake Naivasha is the focus of activity but
the abundant bird life and several activities in the area mean
there is never a shortage of things to do.

Lake Baringo Club

This small lodge at
the borders of Lake Baringo is the gem for birders and bird
photographers in Kenya. Birding here is a real pleasure as
the birds are not at all shy and very colorful.

Maili
Saba Tented Camp
This
camp, which opened early ‘06, is the latest addition to the
selected properties in our accommodation list. The 10 luxurious
tents are built on the edge of the dormant Menengai Crater and our
stay there for 1 overnight is all we needed to conclude that the
place fits so much with what we and our clients are looking for;
silence, tranquility, one-off scenery, unique accommodation and
food worth traveling for all rendered in a level of service that
is professional and non-intrusive. With a limit of only 20 guests,
this is a place for anyone who wants to be pampered away from mass
tourism.
The
Menengai area is very beautiful with cliff walls and steam jets
filling the crater with mist. It is only 10kms from the very busy
Nakuru National Park and has not been touched by tourism. This is
easy to explain as safari here revolves around wildlife with other
geographical features being relegated to viewpoints – that is if
they happen to be visible from a highway. Fortunately Menengai
Crater is off the highway so it is even spared the viewpoint
ritual of convoys of tour buses stopping for the mandatory 10
minutes break of photo taking.
Maili
Saba Camp has a very unique social-ethical side which they don’t
shout much about as they want to be known for their professional
approach and outstanding service. It is a profit-making venture
operated by an NGO (non government organization), in which young
orphaned adults are trained to acquire skills that can enable them
to get employment and therefore become financially independent.
We
recommend that you make Maili Saba your base for a minimum of 2
nights. From here visit Lake Nakuru
National
Park for game viewing and birding. A guided walk in the crater
should be a highlight for walkers. For birders, though this area
is not yet listed as an IBA its mixed habitat of rocks,
patch grass land, scattered bushes and natural springs have
interesting bird life such as Yellow Bishop, Pin-tailed Whydahs,
Streaky Seedeater, Schalow’s Wheatear, Scarlet-chested Sunbird,
Hunter’s Sunbird, Yellow-throated Longclaw, Red-cheeked
Cordon-bleu, Purple Grenadier and the elusive Cinnamon-breasted
Rock Bunting among others.

Lake
Elementaita Lodge
Lake Elementaita
Lodge, managed by the Friends of Lake Nakuru and Elementaita
Conservation Project, was formerly Kikopey Ranch, built by English
settler Lord Gaibraith Cole. It retains the features of early
colonial homes a red brick building with shady terraces, an
internal courtyard, paneled walls and sitting rooms with a library
and log fires.

The
original building that has impressive views over the lake, houses
the dining and living room, bar and conference rooms. 33 twin and
double rooms with ensuite bathrooms are nestled away in the lush
flower garden behind the house.
Lake
Elementaita has been profiled as a Ramsar Site, a wetland of
international importance. The hotels' huge private estate now has
a wildlife reserve stretching away to the hills.
The lake is home to millions of Lesser Flamingos, and also
important as a stopover for over 350 bird species.

Rondo
Retreat, Kakamega Forest
The tranquil Rondo
Retreat Center in the Kakamega Rain Forest is a first class
homestead consisting of the main house of clapboard and colonial
era corrugated iron, and five cottages in the same old style,
whose proximity to the forest makes for delightful accommodation.

The grounds are
lovely with well-maintained lawn and giant rain forest trees.
There are fifteen en-suite double rooms, plus three more double
rooms that share the large original bathroom in the main house. No
two rooms are the same. The bedrooms, sitting rooms and dining
room have all been decorated and furnished with flair using things
“old and new” – antique prints and photographs, and local
paintings, crafts and fabrics.
Hearty English
breakfasts, midday lunches, and candlelit dinners are served in a
brightly cozy dining room, in front of a crackling fire if the air
is cool. Tea can be taken in the sitting room, on the main
verandah or in your cottage or room. Alcoholic drinks are not
served in this retreat.

just 10 minutes away from the busy city center of Nairobi.
This newly built luxury hotel is a haven of peace, unlike many
other top end hotels in Nairobi. It has a manicured garden,
a nicely shaped swimming pool and a half open restaurant. A
place to overnight or spend several days while you're doing your
day excursions.
