APPLYING FOR A VISA FOR STUDENTS TOURS TO AFRICA

YOU ASKED

Should my college, which is arranging our students tour to Africa, apply for our visas or it is the individual students who should make the application?

ANNE HUYSMAN REPLIES

A valid visa - given on a valid passport, is an essential requirement for students on tour to Africa. At the immigration desk of which ever African county you will be visiting on your student tour the holder of the passport is assumed to be the one responsible for getting a visa.

But many schools, colleges find it logistically easier to apply for visas in "group" at the embassy or consular of the particular country they will be traveling to. Often the school liaises with the students travel agency to make the visa procedure easier for the students.

This means that the school gets the guarantee that all the student are eligible to enter the country way before the tour date.

Not unless you are exempted from getting a visa for the African country that your student tour is going to, you should take advantage and obtain your visa as group instead of doing so as an individual which is more cumbersome.
