WHAT IS THE BEST TIME FOR A WALKING SAFARI IN KENYA

YOU ASKED

I want to take a walking safari in Kenya - which is the best walking season. I can only take my vacation in April, a months which is the rainy period in Kenya. Are the rains too much that one can't walk. By the way I from Scotland, so is the weather in April worse than the rainy period here?

ANNE HUYSMAN REPLIES

Kenya is a very good destination for walking safaris; there is easy to see plain game, colorful birds, great scenery and rural life with friendly people.

On the best season for a walking safari - though April is marked as a rainy months, you can still do great walks Kenya because rains are often at night or afternoon but the mornings are dry.

The trick with the rainy season is not the difficult on the walking terrain, rather it is the access by vehicle to the walking sites. With rains, some roads become nearly impassable and this may prevent you from getting to some of the best walking sites.

Talk with your Kenya walking safari operator and he should recommend the walking sites that can be easily accessed even during the rainy season.

While at it, consider the accommodation facilities on your walking safari in Kenya during the months of April (rainy period). Comfort matters, so stay in comfortable safari camps and not basic camping where you will literally be under the rain at night.

And now to your query: Is Kenya rainy season comparable to a rainy season in Scotland? Even without any data - in Kenya outdoor life is still on full gear during the rainy weather, so lace up your boots and book your walking safari!
