HOW TO PREVENT MALARIA ON SAFARI IN KENYA

YOU ASKED

I had very bad side effects from malaria prevention pills that I took for my safari in Kenya in '08. I want go back for another safari but I dread the malaria pills. I've heard there are local remedies that Kenyans use for malaria prevention and they have no side effects. How can I get them?

It is true that Kenya people have a lot of medicinal concoctions for various diseases but the efficacy of the treatment is at times open to question. Consider the risks of taking local malaria prevention remedies for your safari in Kenya. Why not work on minimizing exposure to mosquitoes by wearing appropriate safari clothing e.g. long sleeved trousers and shirts in the evening and also applying insect repellent while outdoors.

Ensuring that your hotel room or safari camp has mosquito nets is another important malaria prevention measure.

But when all is said and done, a word with your doctor on the best medication for malaria will mean that you have peace of mind on and after your safari in Kenya.
