SAFARI TO EAST-AFRICA AT 4 MONTHS PREGNANT

YOU ASKED

Is it safe for a 4 months pregnant woman to travel on safari in East Africa?

ANNE HUYSMAN REPLIES

While pregnancy should not in totality mean that one can't travel, there is a "safety" limit of where to to go and mode of travel. Which ever way you look at it, safaris to Africa are usually on the deep-end to most travelers as they are on out of comfort-zone especially to people coming from developed countries. To start with flights to East Africa from Europe are long you are looking at minimum 8 hours, to this add the cross Atlantic flight. At 4 months pregnancy this is already too long to cramped up on seat.

On to the African safari itself, roads are rough and distances between parks is long. All this might give a lot more physical stress that you may not fully enjoy the wildlife viewing.

Last but important, remember you need some vaccinations and malaria prevention medication when going on safari to East Africa. Discuss the pros & cons of taking these with your doctor. I hope I have been of help.
