Best clothes to wear on a women-only safari to Africa

YOU ASKED

Which are the most suitable women safari clothes to wear for a women on an adventure safari to Africa? Our itinerary includes visiting a primary school, is it ok to wear shorts?

ANNE HUYSMAN REPLIES

The safari clothes needed for a women adventure travel to Africa should be comfortable, light, absorbent and should not show dirty (read dust) easily.

Earth color cottons are perfect. Make sure you have short sleeved safari shirts (blouses) for day wear and long sleeved for wearing in the evening or on cold days. Yes, Africa can get cold, so best be prepared with a light fleece.

On if you should wear shorts, the answer lies with "how short are your shorts". It is a personal judgment but if making social visits to schools, villages or any community set-up, make sure that your dressing doesn't cause your hosts to feel "uncomfortable with you". It all boils down to appreciating that different cultures have different perception on modes of dressing.

Grant it, if it is only for a day that you will visit the school - why not consider using trousers just for the occasion.
