cheap safari packages to kenya

We have seen a very cheap safari package to Kenya for 15 days going under 450 which includes flights from Manchester, HB accommodation in a Kenya beach hotel. Our catch is we have no intention of staying at the beach hotel and want to spend all of our days on safari in Amboseli, Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru and Samburu parks. But the booking agency is putting its foot down that we must use rooms in the hotel or we will pay extra? Also note, they insist that if we go on safari, we have to book with their ground agents as local safari operators are not reliable. We have seen the prices from their ground agent whose itineraries are very different from what we want and his prices are way through our budget roof. How can we go about this problem?

At 450, this looks like a real budget safari to Kenya, that is until you throw the terms and conditions. Grant it the charter flight operator to Kenya wants his profit but you want freedom of going on choosing you Kenya tour operator and also the safari itinerary.

Honestly I don't know if they will be doing a roll call to see who slept or did not sleep in his room and therefore charge extra but there possibly is a way round this; have you tried to tell them what type of a safari you want once you land in Kenya?

If you have not yet paid for the cheap safari package, I would recommend that you widen your research base for other safaris to Kenya that specifically suit your interests. What you might loose out on airfare to Kenya, you might balance it out on a hotel or safari camp offer.

On the reliability of local Kenya tour operators, I would want to steer clear of this debate but it is also good to know on what bases your source of information is basing his decision. But consider many travelers to Kenya book their trip through local safari operators.
