International flights Nairobi to London

YOU ASKED

Our international flight from Nairobi to London is at 9.15 a.m. Can we come from a Masai Mara safari in the morning and be in time for the flight out of Nairobi?

ANNE HUYSMAN REPLIES

For international flights departing from JKIA in Nairobi, Kenya, you need to be in the airport minimum 2 hours before the departure time. So for a 9.15 am flight you should check in at the latest 7.15 am. You loose nothing by being on the side of safety so if you can arrive even earlier? so be it. Throw in the fact that you end with a safari from Masai Mara which is a good 5-6 hrs from Nairobi making it nearly impossible to make it in Nairobi before 7.15 a.m.

For your peace of mind take a last night in a Nairobi hotel or a camp near Nairobi, from where you can make it to the airport in good time. Remember it is your responsibility to check-in early at the airport in Nairobi and failure to catch your flight due to an own-fault can mean that you bear extra costs on hotels, flight changes, transfer etc and still hoping that you will get a flight that does not interfere with your post-Kenya safari schedules.
